Vascular System AlertWritten by
How often do you hear someone say, "this toothache is killing me"? Well, according to research, this could be true. One study investigated the relationship between periodontal disease and the risk of stroke in 10,000 adults over a period of 21 years. There was a significantly increased risk of stroke in periodontal disease patients. Detrimental bacteria associated with periodontal disease are believed to enter the bloodstream and damage blood vessels, subsequently increasing the risk of stroke. Another article states, "Bad gums and teeth trigger more health problems than you realise. Periodontal disease is linked to heart attacks and strokes. Most periodontal disease patients are infected with one or more of several detrimental bacteria that are involved in periodontal disease. These oral bacteria may enter the bloodstream where they cause inflammation and an increase in C-reactive protein. High levels of C-reactive protein increase the risk of various cardiovascular diseases, including stroke". While on the subject of cardiovascular diseases, it is probably not common knowledge but amongst our self-healing abilities is the regrowth and replacement of blood vessels. Surgeons, during by-pass operations have noted such regrowth but unfortunately this regrowth has apparently not occurred in the time necessary to obviate the need for medical intervention by operation. A warning should be given to the many people who use shark cartilage for such things as age-related macular degeneration, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, etcetera. "People who have very recently (within the past 30 days) had a heart attack or stroke should not use shark cartilage until after 30 days after their injury, because shark cartilage inhibits the formation of new blood vessels". This effect of shark cartilage is somewhat alarming because many people have, long after the event, been diagnosed as having had a heart attack or stroke, many years before. They would not have known that their body was busy repairing the damage. How many of us know if we are in need of new blood vessels? This article is intended to be informative and interactive.
