Reader Feedback
"Thank you for writing such a great website. Tonight I eat my last chocolate bar and in the morning, I start my anti Candida program with the help of my naturopath. I wish I could link your website everywhere so people could read what I just read. Thank you again. Rachel from Canada."
For other interested readers; the book referred to is "Healing with Whole Foods" by Paul Pitchford (North Atlantic Books).
Colin and Katherine, I just wanted to write to thank you for your extraordinary article on Candida Overgrowth. The listing of the effects in the body has been tremendously helpful in my continuing research on the subject. I have a sister who has been coping with the effects of Candidisas for most of her life, unbeknownst to her until a few years ago. (Probably due to the use of corticosteroids for treatment of asthma as a child forty-some years ago.) Articles such as yours pinpointing the areas of effect are rare. As we have studied the subject, we have become more and more concerned over the potential for serious, but undetected harm to the brains and bodies of children by the condition and the long-term health, mental, and emotional problems that can result. [Especially given the amount of simple sugars in the modern (at least in the US) child's diet and the use of antibiotics.] I found the itemization of the interference with the B vitamins extremely useful. I had previously encountered only mention of the interference with activation of B6. [Using an activated B6/B2/Magnesium supplement with rice protein has allowed my sister to effectively utilize protein (with all of its health benefits) for the first time (potentially) in her life.] I am using your article as the basis to investigate, in depth, the roles of the other vitamins and coenzymes cited. As a background for this research, would it be possible to receive information regarding the source(s) of the effects on the B vitamins? We have recently been advised of renewed interest within the mental health field in the US regarding the effects on the brain of vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, especially aimed at preventing the development of problems. We would like to be able to put together well-documented-enough research on the subject of Candida Overgrowth to present to persons interested in the mental health field to encourage funding for further research on the subject. You also mention in the article that Candida Overgrowth is difficult to detect. [My sister has discovered there is a new stool test now available that is considerably more accurate than those previously used. I would be happy to forward you information on it if you would be interested.] I have been researching the Acetaldehyde you note in the article. Do you know if Acetaldehyde shows up through blood tests? If so, it may be another means of detecting Candida Overgrowth, especially in children. The scope of your article reveals an extraordinary amount of research on the subject. I would encourage you to elaborate further on various specifics contained in the article. I think many persons around the world would find it most useful. I had not meant to write a book when I started this e-mail and do appreciate your kind attention to this point. I do want to again express my gratitude for your public conscience in writing and publishing the article for the world to share. Regards,
