HYPNOSIS - Clinical Hypnotherapy

Advantages and definition of Hypnosis

Hypnosis is defined as a relaxed, focused state of awareness. The actual state of hypnosis is difficult to describe and until recently, it was assumed that it was a trance similar to sleep, or that the mind was somehow unconscious. Most people however, say they simply feel relaxed and that it does not feel like an unusual state of mind, it does not feel like a trance. The reason being is; it is natural for us to experience this altered state of awareness - and we do so every day, without realising it. In reality, there is a specific state that the brain enters into. This has been confirmed by brain scans, during hypnosis. The brain wave activity changes during hypnosis and assumes a state similar to that just before sleep, when the alpha state is entered. The waking state is called a beta brain wave, just as we are going to sleep it changes to alpha and then to delta and theta in deep sleep. The alpha state is a very dreamy and pleasant state. During this time, the mind is very open to visualising and creating a rich sensory experience. The more real this experience becomes, the more effect it will have on our waking behaviour. This is why our range of Hypnosis CDs is therapeutic and particularly effective in eliminating many bad habits and symptoms of emotional stress.

Clinical Hypnotherapy and emotional health

We are constantly hypnotising ourselves. Sometimes, we are our own worst enemy, when we call ourselves names, put ourselves down, reinforce bad habits such as; smoking, alcohol, drug addiction or gambling. It can get to be a habit and if we do it long enough; we will develop a belief that will get the results we don't want. Fear, trauma, stress, worry and limitations can result in chronic depression, phobias and a host of self defeating behaviours such as panic attacks, ADD or ADHD, low self-esteem, etc., that can further manifest into physical symptoms.

On the other hand, hypnosis can be a most valuable tool; it can help us to change the way our mind experiences our world. If there was a magic wand that could help us change aspects of our lives, our health and wellbeing, our behaviour and the way we experience childbirth, this might be it. A good Hypnotherapist knows how to help one gently release blocks and fears, and create a new inner belief that will set the wheels in motion to help make changes in the way we think, feel and behave. Is hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis is a normal state of mind, one that most people go in and out of every day. Whenever we are engrossed watching a movie or driving on "automatic pilot", we are in hypnosis. We experience hypnosis every day and don't even know it.

Whether we are in hypnosis, or driving down the road in a semi-trance, we have an "observer self" or "autopilot" which is always aware and watching out for us. This observer self, has been documented as a credible aspect of our mind, that keeps us safe, even when we are asleep. During hypnosis, we can trust that our observer self will watch over us. This is not a guide or spiritual being; it is a scientifically proven natural function of the brain.
