Pain - Ailment or Warning?Colin Ifield
How we marvel at the technology of aeroplanes, spacecraft, computers and the internet. We are fascinated by ingenious mechanical, electronic and computer systems that many clever people have devised or invented.
But all this cannot compare to the wondrous workings of the human mind and body. The skeletal structure, the muscles and above all, the amazing brain and intricate nervous system that make this wonderful human machine function so well and reliably. It even continues to function to some large extent, when not properly maintained. If we looked after our cars as badly as we do our own bodies, they would have given up years ago.
Most of the time we are just too busy to heed the warnings we get in the form of aches and pains. Sometimes we simply don't realise what these warnings mean or, for that matter, what we can do about them, except perhaps to pop a pill. These warnings, usually, are a sign of tight adhered muscles and unfortunately, pills don't loosen muscles, they deaden the nerves and camouflage the damage we are doing. Forty years ago, people selling old cars were renown for putting sawdust in gearboxes, to "camouflage" the noise, from worn gears. Surely, our bodies deserve better treatment.
Have you ever wondered why some aches and pains won't go away, no matter what conventional treatment or medication we try? Is it really that our spine is misaligned, that we have bursitis or arthritis or a worn knee or hip joint? It may be simpler than we think.
Let's face it, if no abnormality or illness exists, then the problem is most likely in our muscles. When muscles are adhered they contort our bodies, causing misalignments and stress to our tendons, ligaments and joints. Both blood and lymphatic flow are adversely affected; resulting in trauma to any tissues denied a healthy supply of oxygen and vital nutrients.
Even the most uneducated motorist understands that "no oil in the engine, results in a seized engine". The same applies to our bodies...if there is insufficient blood or lymphatic fluid supply; there is reduced lubrication and vital nutrients, to satisfy the needs of our tissues. The end result is a warning; and this warning, is called 'pain'.
Muscles get into trouble for many reasons. These include accidents, strains and illnesses, where fever is involved, effecting the lymphatic system. Of course, stress plays a major role.
The first line of defence for such aches and pains is to treat the adhered muscles with deep tissue massage, and this is best done in the early stages, 'before' we become disabled.
