Deep Muscle Therapy or Pfrimmer Deep muscle Therapy, is a very successful form of remedial massage that, as the name implies, works into the deeper levels of muscles.

When a person is ill or in pain, often friends will suggest a particular therapy that worked for them. They try the recommended therapy to no avail or they may receive minor relief. Perhaps they were fortunate enough to achieve the desired results.

Why are some therapies successful for one individual and not for another?

To answer this question we will not go into a long exposé of physiological processes within the body. The answers are simple...the basic principle of a healthy body is to have healthy blood, which can only be achieved by good circulation. If each and every cell of the body is well nourished and healthy then so too will the whole body be healthy. Our cells get sick and we get sick!

Surrounding each cell is Lymphatic fluid; obviously the purity of the lymph depends on the quality of the blood and the vigour of the circulation. The cleansing action of the lymph, being as important as the nourishing action.

To achieve Homeostasis (perfectly balanced body chemistry), the blood and the lymph must flow freely...rich in nutrients and oxygen and free from unwanted substances and toxins.

One of the major factors restricting the flow of the blood and lymph; is tight muscles.

When the muscles, particularly the deep layers, are in spasm there is a 'clamping' effect on the arteries which slows the circulation and inhibits the lymphatic flow. These spasms (and subsequent adhesions) may be present for many years, affecting every single organ and tissue in the body...the liver, heart, brain, etc.

Most therapies overlook the factor of releasing the deeper layers of the muscles as a priority to enhanced circulation.

We have a two-fold effect that takes place, once these deeper muscle layers are released. Not only are the arteries released but also overall circulation through the muscles is increased, building a stronger immune system; thus helping our bodies to cope with the pressures of life.

These are the basic principles, on which depends a successful therapy. With this in mind, we would like to introduce you to Deep Muscle Therapy. As the name implies, this therapy treats the deeper layers of the muscles, nerves and major vessels that have been constricted.

Deep Muscle therapy is not just another therapy that may help. THE FACT IS THAT IT WILL HELP and plays a major part in how fast the healing process can take place within the body. Let us explain this bold statement.

People become paralysed for two reasons:

1. The blood supply to their muscles has been diminished. Without fresh, oxygenated, Arterial blood, their muscles degenerate. They may become hardened, rubbery, stringy, woody, etc; and

2. The flow of lymph plasma to their muscles is restricted. This fluid is vital to the lubrication of the muscles as it prevents the muscles from adhering to one another. Without lymph, there is friction and different muscles adhere together. Regardless of the disease, the same basic muscle problems, effecting the circulation.

The only difference from case to case is that different parts of the muscles are involved. Depending on the case, it may be the beginning of the muscle (the origin), the middle (the belly), the end (the insertion), the coating (the sheath) or in the individual muscle fibres. Aside from this, the problems are the same. It is obvious that by softening hardened muscle fibres and releasing muscles that have adhered; lymph flow between the muscles will be restored and an improved circulation into the muscles; will result. It is apparent that working down the muscles will not open the fibres as required and working across the muscles does help, although, it is not completely successful. By working at different angles the treatment becomes very successful and this technique will help in many different conditions. By softening hardened muscle fibres and releasing the muscles that have become adhered; the lymph flow between the muscles would be restored and improved circulation into the muscles; will result.

When explaining the techniques of working angles; the most commonly asked question is "does it hurt." The answer to this question is both Yes and No.

An important thing to remember is that "Deep Muscle Therapy simply uncovers the pain that is already there". It also depends on the condition of the muscles...the tighter the muscles, the more pain will be felt. This may be minimized by the use of a natural analgesic cream. The first treatment is always the most intense. As muscles become free - pain decreases. Children don't usually suffer pain ... some discomfort only, is experienced.

Clients will often say that they don't feel that their muscles are tight...but as time goes by, and their muscles get tighter, they WILL feel pain.

To best explain this; imagine that there is a scale; - 0% representing a completely free muscle and 100% representing a totally locked muscle in severe spasm. On the scale we place another point at 75% and this represents the point where pain is actually felt.

Under 75% the body will usually tolerate muscle spasms, when the spasm increase above this point; pain will be felt. Many other treatments will bring the client below the 75% threshold, reducing the pain and the problem appears to be resolved. However, this is not so...

Being under 75% is not enough...the muscles must be completely released; or the problem will recur.

Often in this scenario the circulation will be constantly impaired and as previously explained...if the body does not have good circulation, the person cannot experience good health.

Deep Muscle Therapy is an essential ingredient to achieving optimum results by improving the circulation and therefore; maintaining good health.
